Actor/
comedian/ screenwriter/essayist/ and novelist Steve Martin tackles the
seemingly only unexplored occupation of playwright with Picasso
at the Lapin Agile.
Martin received high praise and critical acclaim for his
first full-length play that has enjoyed commercial success in Los
Angles, New York and Chicago.
This
comedy transpires on the cusp of the 20th century- a time
of great change and discoveries in the fields of art and science.
A small Parisian bar called the Lapin
Agile is the meeting ground for patrons to discuss many of their
ideas.
In this fictitious meeting, Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein
debate the physics of art and the art of physics, and how they will
etch their mark in the history of their rapidly changing society.
Open Cage’s production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile resides in a local Chicago establishment, the Town Hall Pub. You sit at the bar and tables adjacent to the very table Picasso and Einstein discuss their theories over so you are submerged in the world of the play. photos
